The oldest son of US President Donald Trump has been infected with the novel corona virus. Donald Trump Jr. tested positive for the pathogen at the beginning of the week, his spokesman announced yesterday (local time). As soon as the 42-year-old received the test result, he was placed in quarantine.
The son of the president did not show any Covid-19 symptoms, his spokesman said. A few hours earlier, the CoV infection of Andrew Giuliani, the son of Rudy Giuliani, had become public. The son of Trump’s lawyer works in the White House.
Donald Trump Jr. had actively participated in his father’s fight for a second term in office, among other things with sharply right-wing, provocative messages in online networks. After the victory of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden in the November 3 election, Trump Jr. made a tweet in which he declared that his father should go into “total war” in the fight against alleged election fraud.
Further infections around the US president
A CoV infection was detected in President Trump in early October. The President therefore briefly went to hospital for treatment. Trump’s wife Melania and their son Barron also tested positive.
After Trump’s infection, several other infections were reported from his entourage, including from Secretary of Construction Ben Carson, Presidential Advisor David Bossie and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. The girlfriend of Donald Trump Jr., ex-Fox News anchorwoman Kimberly Guilfoyle, had already been diagnosed with CoV infection in early July.
Warning about Thanksgiving
President Trump, however, repeatedly plays down the scale of the pandemic. After his recovery, he called on the population to be “not afraid” of CoV and not to let the virus “dominate” them.
The USA is the country in the world that has been hit hardest by the pandemic. More than 253,000 people in the United States have already died from CoV infections. The number of confirmed cases of infection is also the highest in the world at more than 11.8 million. U.S. citizens are therefore called upon to refrain from traditional family visits on Thanksgiving November 26.
